Wait – we still need the force to
launch it. We can use our fizzing
reaction but it needs to be bigger
LET’S EXPERIMENT: https://youtu.be/FwtSMJ0It6I than before.
It’s another messy one so let’s lift off outside.
(1) Put your safety glasses on
(2) Measure out 100ml of water 100ml
(about half a cupful) and ask an
adult to help pour it into your bottle
(3) Now take 2 vitamin C tablets and
break each one in half so they can fit
into the bottle
(4) Place them into the bottle as fast
as you can and put the stopper on tight
(5) Give it a little shake,
and place it on the ground so
the wooden sticks are holding it up
(6) Stand back and get ready for lift off
ADULT SAFETY CHECK :
Make sure your little ones don’t put the vitamin C tablets in their mouth. They should also have safety glasses
on to prevent any fizzing liquid coming into contact with their eyes. Stand at least 2 metres away.
HOW DOES IT WORK?:
Again, the vitamin C tablet produces a gas which builds up inside and creates a force. The force pushes the stopper
out of the bottle and launches it into the air. Because the bottle was bigger than the film canister, we needed more
force to launch, so we used more water and 2 vitamin C tablets.
TIME TO EXPLORE: – Now compare the difference between using 1, 2 or 3 tablets to launch
your rocket. Just wash it with water each time before you use it.
